How to unlock the 556 Icarus in MW2?
The 556 Icarus in Modern Warfare 2 is unlocked by upgrading the M4 to weapon level 18. Fortunately, the M4 unlocks instantly, so you don’t have to wait long. Reaching weapon level 13 on Icarus unlocks the M16, a classic burst AR that packs a punch in MW2.

We built the 556 Icarus for long-range engagements, so we opted for the Corvus Slash Gen 2 to prevent muzzle flash and assist the Icarus’ recoil to help you stay on target.
The FTAC Coldforge 16″ barrel increases the weapon’s damage range, hip firing accuracy and projectile velocity, greatly increasing your effectiveness in taking down enemies within range.
To offset some of the mobility loss due to the barrel, the Ravage 8 stock has regained some aiming down speed, sprint speed, and crouch movement speed.
Finally, the SZ Sigma IV optics are a nice clean sight in Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer, while the SZ 1MW PEQ laser provides some aiming stability.

Both the Bomb Squad and Battle Hardened have become must-have assets in Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer, especially given the sheer amount of gear that can provide some protection from shards, drills, and stuns.
Swift Hands is a nice bonus for the 556 Icarus as it greatly increases the weapon’s reload speed. Finally, after a disappointing discovery of how Ghost works in MW2, Birdseye is a great ultimate that allows you to gather more information from the minimap.
For gear, we’ve opted for flash grenades and frag grenades, both of which are essential in CoD multiplayer, so it’s hard to go wrong with these tips. In the end, we decided to field upgrade Dead Silence for the extra mobility that the LMG lacked.
Other alternatives to the 556 Icarus in MW2
The RAAL MG is a great replacement for the 556 Icarus in Modern Warfare 2, as it also has a huge magazine and high damage for eliminating multiple targets in quick succession.
If you like something less heavy, you can’t go wrong with the M4, which sits on the same weapons platform as the Icarus.
