Guide to Spekkio in Chrono Trigger
Remember, leveraging the capabilities of each character and understanding the nuances of Spekkio’s forms will be crucial for successful encounters in Chrono Trigger.
Features:
- Magic Teaching: Spekkio bestows magic abilities to characters.
- Unique Rewards: Prizes, including rare tabs, are awarded upon defeating Spekkio.
- Varied Forms: Spekkio’s form and the prizes he offers change based on player level.
- Character-specific Abilities:
- Crono: Learns Lightning magic.
- Lucca: Masters Fire magic.
- Marle: Acquires Ice magic.
- Frog: Grasps Water magic.
- Magus: Begins with knowledge of Shadow magic.
- Robo: Cannot learn magic due to lacking a soul but can deal Shadow type damage.
- Ayla: Unable to learn magic given she existed before magic’s introduction to earth, rendering her somewhat ineffective against Spekkio.
Spekkio, often referred to as the master of war, resides at the End of Time and plays a pivotal role in teaching characters magic. Challenging Spekkio provides players with unique rewards, the specifics of which are dictated by the player’s level. Note, however, that each reward can only be claimed once.
In his Nu form, Spekkio is resistant to physical attacks but remains vulnerable to magic. Interestingly, a combination tech involving both physical and magic components can damage him.
It’s essential for players to introduce every character to Spekkio. This interaction ensures characters can harness magic or at least have their capabilities elucidated.
Spekkio’s Forms in Chrono Trigger
Spekkio’s form changes based on the lead character’s level in your party. Typically, Crono takes the lead, but you can change it as the game progresses. Here’s a breakdown:
Frog Form (Levels 1-9)
- Appearance: Frog
- HP: 350
- Reward: 1 Magic Tab
- Strategy: Rarely encountered. To see it, start a new game and avoid most fights. Despite some fights seeming unavoidable, maneuvering on the map’s edge can skip them.
Kilwala Form (Levels 10-19)
- Appearance: Kilwala
- HP: 800
- Reward: 1 Magic Tab, 5 Ethers
- Strategy: Utilize Marle’s Aura for healing while Crono and Lucca target Spekkio with spells.
Goblin Form (Levels 20-29)
- Appearance: Goblin
- HP: 2200
- Reward: 1 Magic Tab, 5 Mid Ethers
- Strategy: Fire-resistant gear is helpful. Balance between grinding and progressing in the story. Use Marle’s Haste and Cure spells to maintain the party’s health.
Omnicrone Form (Levels 30-39)
- Appearance: Red Omnicrone
- HP: 4800
- Reward: 1 Magic Tab, 5 Full Ethers
- Strategy: Use the most powerful techs. If Marle is in your party, apply Haste on your members. Assign a healer and strike hard. Recommended levels: 38-39.
Masamune Form (Levels 40-98)
- Appearance: Masamune
- HP: 10,000
- Reward: 1 Magic Tab, 1 Power Tab, 1 Speed Tab, 10 Elixirs
- Strategy: Complete sidequests for optimal equipment. Engage when ready.
Nu Form (Level 99)
- Appearance: Nu
- HP: 20,000
- Reward: 10 Magic Tabs, 10 Power Tabs, 10 Speed Tabs, 10 MegaElixirs
- Strategy: Equip Haste Helm and Green Dreams. Use Lucca and Frog’s Frog Flare when Frog’s HP is low due to frequent Halation attacks from Spekkio. If playing the Nintendo DS version, equip Lucca with the Elemental Aegis armor to shield against Spekkio’s strikes.
