Mejoress is diving deep into the world of Mordheim: City of The Damned and we will be releasing some guides as well as tips and tricks for the game. Today, we present to you our own Skaven guide in Mordheim: City of The Damned. Let’s check it out!

About Skaven

The Skaven is one of the 6 available clans from the base game of Mordheim: City of The Damned. After learning the art of assassination in distant lands, the Skaven clan is well-equipped with the traits of stealth and ruthlessness. When making use of Skaven warriors, make sure to understand their strengths and weaknesses well before you engage in combat. To make the best possible use of Skavens, never engage in one-on-one combats, so make sure to keep your warriors together. Skaven warriors should always take advantage of isolated foes and make proper use of ambushes.

Skaven Warriors

Here’s the full list of Skaven warriors available in the game:

Skaven Leader (Assassin Adept) Build

Let’s take a look at the build of the Skaven Leader, Assassin Adept:

Equipment

Weeping Blades are usually the most utilized equipment for this clan. These dual-wielded swords apply damaging poison against opponents that bypass their armor. Think of it as a Halberd but with deadly poison damage. You should also make use of the Fighting Claws as they provide climbing bonuses and slight armor penetration.

Let’s move on to the ranged equipment and we are featuring the Shuriken. It may be low range and low damage but the small bonus to hit percentage more than makes up for it. This equipment can come in handy during the occasions you can’t get to an enemy’s combat circle. Also, it gives units a good ranged option when low on health and you don’t want to risk death. Next up is the Warplock Pistols. These can do quite a bit of damage at a moderate range. However, you can only make proper use of it if your Hero has a higher ballistic skill.

Skills

Starting off with the Active Skills, we have Warp Poison and Numbing Poison. Both of these are two of the most overpowered skills in the entire game. Successful application of these two skills can remove strategy or combat points from enemies. These two skills are highly recommended for ranged units because they can hit multiple targets each turn. Also, these poison skills can be stacked with debuffing abilities such as Crippling Shot. Make maximal use of these abilities by integrating poison bypass.

We’re not forgetting Passive Skills here and we have to talk about Swarm. Swarm increases your hit chance and melee critical chance by 5%. Only costing a 100 gold, this passive skill is highly affordable. Next up is the Black Hunger skill. While it may sacrifice hit points, this skill buffs your damage and helps bypass a massive chunk of the enemy dodging parry. Your damage percentage can be further boosted when paired with skills like Frenzy and Daredevil. And God save any enemy that faces this when unleashed with Mighty Charge or Overpower!

Clothing or Light Armour?

While the temptation for clothing is there due to the extra dodge, we have to remember that we can only dodge when in the dodge stance. If you are casually roaming while donning clothing and find yourself in the middle of an ambush, then you will have to endure some serious damage. That is why we recommend light armour on the heroes whenever possible, especially for those that have some parry. Helmets are definitely recommended too for the extra armor.

Sorcerer Tips & Tricks

  1. To make up for Ogre’s stupidity, make use of the Sorcerer’s Free Guidance ability that is found in the leadership tree. This nullifies the effects of stupidity for a couple of turns and can also and can also help traumatize warband members suffering from stupidity.
  2. Take advantage of Sorcerer’s Bless With Filth which gives one of your heroes increased damage per hit. This is best combined with Rat Ogre as this late-game spell can dish out more damage as the units gain more attacks per turn later on in the campaign.
  3. Sorcerer’s Curse is recommended for every single Sorcerer as it reduces a single opponent’s armor value allowing you to deal heavy damage.

Playstyle Tips

The ideal way of playing Skaven is making sure that your rats stick together because it’s much safer. Don’t just rush towards the nearest wyrdstone at the beginning as you can end up in sticky situations without much support. Do remember that the henchmen can move really slow especially with the heavy armour, so plan your tactics accordingly. You can mitigate this by placing your heavy armour units closer to the objectives. Skaven are highly suitable for wide arc deployments due to their movement range bonus. Also, remember the fact that your charge distance as a Skaven will be greater than your enemies in most cases so do ambush the enemy henchmen wherever possible. But be mindful of ambushing heroes without backup as there’s a high chance it will leave you on the backfoot.
