Deskrawl Monk Leveling Guide: Build Your Monk to Level 60

Last Updated on 2 October, 2026

Starting a Monk in Deskrawl: Idle ARPG is easy enough. Knowing where to put each talent point without wasting gold on resets is the harder part, especially once the tree starts opening new rows and major abilities.

This level 1 to 60 guide gives you a talent path, the ability unlocks, and recommended action-bar and companion setups for each stage. Follow the progression to keep your early Dodge Chance and Attack Speed investment feeding into the later mana, critical, Spirit Twin, and endgame damage build, while using free K-slot swaps to handle tougher zones.

🧠 Did You Know? The developers, First Day Games, introduced themselves in May as a two-person studio making its second game. They had put “thousands of hours in Diablo” and wanted an ARPG they could keep playing while working or watching TV

How the Monk Progression Works

Resetting talents gets more expensive as you spend more points. At level 25, the reset cost is already over 2,500 gold, so this build treats the 60 talent points as one continuous progression instead of relying on respecs.

Active K abilities work differently. Swapping skills on the combat bar costs nothing, letting you change attacks, healing, dodge tools, and crowd-control abilities when the current area demands a different approach. Poison pools, heavy crowd control, and large enemy groups are the situations where those swaps can help.

Your talent points stay committed, but the K bar remains flexible. You can keep the same talent investment as you level and adjust your active skills without spending gold.

Tip: A new ability does not mean you should reset your talents. Try it in the K bar first, since active skill swaps are free.

Monk Ability Unlock Timeline

The Monk gains new attacks at fixed level milestones. The Basic and Strong slots progress through set unlocks, while the Special slots gain additional options as you level.

Level Unlock Type
1 Threefold Strike Basic
5 Sacred Judgment Strong
10 Sacred Orbs Special
15 Furious Fist, Spirit Stream Basic, Special
20 Piercing Lunge Strong
25 Charge Special
30 Seismic Strike, Spirit Twin Basic, Special
35 Whirlwind Staff Strong
40 Wind Steps Special
45 Chi Bolt, Divine Thunder Basic, Special
50 Golden Palms Strong

Not every unlocked ability needs to replace the skill already in that slot. Some remain useful as situational options, particularly in the Special slots.

Levels 1-14: Build Dodge and Attack Speed

Starter Plains and Early Catacombs cover Waves 1 to 14. The main threats are slow melee enemies such as zombies and skeletons, along with a raptor miniboss. Their incoming damage is physical attacks, making Dodge Chance the starting point.

Spend levels 1 to 5 on Dodge Chance in Row 0, taking it to 5/8 and unlocking Row 5. Put levels 6 to 9 into Attack Speed for 4/6. At level 10, add another point to Dodge Chance for 6/8. Reaching 10 cumulative talent points also unlocks Capstone I.

Take Mirror Steps at level 11 for 1/1. It adds flat physical damage after every dodge. Finish Dodge Chance at 8/8 with the level 12 and 13 points, then use level 14 to raise Attack Speed to 5/6.

Use Threefold Strike as your Basic attack, Sacred Judgment as your Strong attack from level 5, and Sacred Orbs as your Special from level 10. Grey Forest Wolf provides Attack Speed, while Orc Fighter provides Flat Strength.

Levels 15-19: Start the Mana Engine

Deep Forest and Ruin Thresholds cover Waves 15 to 19. Level 15 brings two important additions at once: Furious Fist replaces the starting Basic attack, and Spirit Stream opens the second Special.

Use the level 15 talent point to finish Attack Speed at 6/6. That opens Row 15 after 15 cumulative points. Put levels 16 to 19 into Zephyr’s Flow for 4/5. Dodging generates continuous mana through the talent, giving the build its main mana engine.

Equip Furious Fist, Sacred Judgment, Sacred Orbs, and Spirit Stream. Grey Forest Wolf or Boar can fill the companion slot.

Tip: Keep the next four talent points together in Zephyr’s Flow. This is where the Monk’s Dodge-based mana generation starts to take shape.

Levels 20-24: Handle the Poison Zones

Poison Swamp and Muddy Coast cover Waves 20 to 24 and introduce persistent green poison pools and environmental damage-over-time effects. Dodge Chance does not mitigate the damage from ground poison, so this section puts more emphasis on health and healing.

At level 20, unlock Piercing Lunge and finish Zephyr’s Flow at 5/5. This completes the build’s infinite mana sustain sustain. Levels 21 to 24 go into Fundamentals in Row 20, taking it to 4/10 and scaling basic attack damage.

Use Furious Fist, Piercing Lunge, Spirit Stream, and Sacred Orbs. Piercing Lunge provides a mid-range piercing cone strike, while Spirit Stream supplies active healing.

Boar is the mandatory companion here. Its Vitality passive increases Max HP, helping prevent sudden deaths and increasing the net health restored per second by Spirit Stream.

Tip: Dodge will not protect you from poison-pool damage. The extra health from Boar and the healing from Spirit Stream are the key defensive tools here.

Levels 25-29: Add Charge

Deep Swamp and Desert Outskirts cover Waves 25 to 35 in this section. Charge unlocks at level 25 as a Special and gives the Monk a rush that can area-stun poison spitters.

Continue investing in Fundamentals from levels 25 to 29, taking it from 4/10 to 9/10. This keeps the basic attack damage scaling moving before the next capstone opens.

Your action bar is Furious Fist, Piercing Lunge, Spirit Stream, and Charge. Boar or Grey Forest Wolf can fill the companion slot.

Charge is the main new utility option here. Its rush and area stun are useful against the poison spitters in these stages.

Levels 30-34: Add Spirit Twin

Red Barrens Entrance and Shifting Dunes cover Waves 36 to 40. Level 30 unlocks Seismic Strike, Spirit Twin, and Capstone II.

Finish Fundamentals at 10/10 with the level 30 point. That reaches the 30-point threshold for Capstone II. Take Gathered Force at level 31 for 1/1, then put levels 32 to 34 into Vigor in Row 15 for 3/8.

Spirit Twin becomes the key addition to the action bar because it duplicates all attacks. Keep Furious Fist in the Basic slot and Piercing Lunge in the Strong slot. Special 1 can be Spirit Stream for sustain or Charge for stun control, with Spirit Twin in Special 2.

Grey Forest Wolf or Skeleton Archer can be used as the companion. Skeleton Archer supplies Crit Chance.

Levels 35-39: Cap Physical Crit Chance

Red Desert and Bandit Camps cover Waves 41 to 49. Whirlwind Staff unlocks at level 35 as the next Strong attack and creates two wandering tornadoes.

Put all five points from levels 35 to 39 into Vigor, taking it from 3/8 to 8/8. These points finish the build’s physical crit chance investment before the later focus on Spirit Twin and critical damage.

Use Furious Fist, Whirlwind Staff, Charge or Spirit Stream, and Spirit Twin. Boar provides sustained survival against the desert mobs, while Orc Fighter is the alternative companion.

Tip: Replace Piercing Lunge with Whirlwind Staff at level 35. Keep Special 1 flexible between Charge and Spirit Stream depending on whether you need control or sustain.

Levels 40-44: Increase Spirit Twin Duration

Snow Hill and Frost Keep cover Waves 50 to 54. Wind Steps unlocks at level 40 as a Special and provides a large active Dodge increase.

Put the level 40 point into Heavy Hands in Row 20 for 1/5. This opens Row 40 after 40 cumulative talent points. Levels 41 to 44 go into Enhance Spirit Twin: Duration for 4/6.

Use Furious Fist, Whirlwind Staff, Wind Steps, and Spirit Twin. Skeleton Archer or Orc Fighter can fill the companion slot.

Wind Steps fits the build’s earlier Dodge investment by adding a large active Dodge spike when you need it.

Levels 45-49: Finish Spirit Twin Duration

Defiled Keep covers Waves 55 to 59. Level 45 unlocks Chi Bolt as a Basic attack and Divine Thunder as a Special.

Use levels 45 and 46 to finish Enhance Spirit Twin: Duration at 6/6. This gives the build permanent clone uptime. Put levels 47 to 49 into Heavy Hands, taking it from 1/5 to 4/5.

Heavy Hands scales Critical Strike Damage for Strong Attacks. Keep Whirlwind Staff in the Strong slot and Wind Steps in Special 1. Spirit Twin remains in Special 2, while Chi Bolt can replace Furious Fist when ranged sustain is needed. Divine Thunder can replace Spirit Twin when its room-wide daze is more useful.

Use Skeleton Archer or Boar as the companion.

Tip: Chi Bolt and Divine Thunder are situational alternatives. The default setup keeps Furious Fist and Spirit Twin in the bar.

Levels 50-59: Build Golden Palms

Volcano and Nightmare Threshold are the areas for this stage, which reaches Wave 60. Golden Palms unlocks at level 50 as the next Strong attack.

Use the level 50 point to finish Heavy Hands at 5/5 in Row 20. This opens Row 50 after 50 cumulative talent points. Levels 51 to 58 go into Enhance Golden Palms: Damage & Mana Cost until it reaches 8/8.

At level 59, take Exploit Weakness to 1/10. Keep Furious Fist in the Basic slot and use Golden Palms, Wind Steps, and Spirit Twin alongside it.

Socket all six pieces of the Hundred Hands set. Skeleton Archer or Orc Fighter can fill the companion slot.

Tip: Don’t divert the eight points in this bracket into another talent. The progression needs Enhance Golden Palms: Damage & Mana Cost at 8/8 before level 60.

Level 60+: Formless and Paragon

At level 60, Capstone III: Formless unlocks at 1/1 in Row 60 alongside the Paragon System.

Formless converts your 70%-80% Dodge Chance into Critical Strike Damage. That gives the Dodge Chance investment from the opening levels a direct role in the late-game damage setup.

Start Paragon with Life on Hit under Utility and Dodge Chance under Defense. Lord of the Cinder is the BiS companion, with Ashen Wrath increasing Critical Strike Damage; Skeleton Archer is the alternative.

For the level 60 setup, use Furious Fist, Golden Palms, Wind Steps, and Spirit Twin.

Tip: Formless is where the early Dodge Chance investment feeds into the build’s Critical Strike Damage scaling.

Note: This guide is one suggested way to level the Monk, not the only viable setup.

Conclusion

The Monk build starts with Dodge Chance and Attack Speed, then adds mana generation through Zephyr’s Flow and basic attack damage through Fundamentals. Vigor finishes the physical crit investment, Heavy Hands builds Critical Strike Damage for Strong Attacks, and Spirit Twin becomes a central part of the later setup.

The action bar develops alongside the talent tree. Furious Fist, Piercing Lunge, Whirlwind Staff, Golden Palms, Spirit Stream, Charge, Spirit Twin, Wind Steps, Chi Bolt, and Divine Thunder all unlock at fixed levels, with several abilities serving as alternatives when a zone calls for different utility.

At level 60, Formless converts 70%-80% Dodge Chance into Critical Strike Damage, and Paragon starts with Life on Hit and Dodge Chance as the immediate investments. The talent points stay on one continuous progression, while free K-slot swaps let you change the combat setup as you move through different areas.
