Bongo Cat is a lighthearted, indie simulation game available on Steam for Windows. It features a cute white cat sitting on your taskbar.
Whenever you type or click, the cat taps imaginary bongos. That’s the charm, simple, fun, and weirdly addictive.
But it’s not just about animations. Over time, the game rewards you with treasure chests that drop cosmetic items like hats. The rarest hats? Epic and Legendary. And if you’re aiming for those, here’s everything you need to know.
How to Get Epic & Legendary Hats in Bongo Cat

Hats come in different rarity tiers. Epic and Legendary hats are at the top — and extremely hard to come across.
-
Epic Hats: 0.01% drop chance
-
Legendary Hats: 1 in 500,000 drop chance
Loot drops happen roughly every 30 minutes as long as Bongo Cat is running. This means the more time you spend with the game open, the more chests you’ll get — and more chances for a lucky pull.
Still, the odds are not in your favor. So, how do most players actually get Epic and Legendary hats?
Use the Exchange System

Bongo Cat includes a built-in Exchange system. You can trade 10 items of the same rarity for 1 item from the next higher tier. It’s a long grind, but it’s your main in-game method for reaching the rarest hats without spending money.
Here’s how to exchange items in Bongo Cat:
-
Launch Bongo Cat from your Steam Library.
-
Click the three-line Menu icon.
-
Open the Exchange tab (marked with circular arrows).
-
Select 10 items of the same rarity.
-
Hit the Exchange button.
-
You’ll get 1 random item from the next rarity tier.
Example:
10 Common = 1 Uncommon
10 Uncommon = 1 Rare
…and so on, up to Epic and Legendary.
Yes, it takes hundreds or even thousands of lower-rarity items to eventually craft your way to the top tiers. But if you’re committed, it’s possible.
Buy from the Steam Marketplace (Optional)
If grinding isn’t your thing, you can head to the Steam Community Market and buy rare hats directly from other players.
Keep in mind:
-
Epic hats are expensive.
-
Legendary hats are very expensive.
-
Prices depend on demand, rarity, and how cool the hat looks.
This method skips the wait but costs real money. Use it only if you’re serious about finishing your collection, or just want to flex.
-
Keep Bongo Cat running in the background while you work or browse.
-
Check your loot regularly to build up inventory for exchanges.
-
Be patient — most players take weeks to hit Epic, and even longer for Legendary.
