The only way to get Monster is through the Myths and Monsters mobile-exclusive Android and iOS expansion. Since there are four new starting items: Monster, Evil, Immortality & Good. So Monster is one of the 4 new starter items.
As of this writing, the Myths and Monsters expansion is priced at $2.99, so it’s not too much of a cost if you like the game and don’t want to miss out on all the new recipes and combos coming with the update.
