Descura (Witch’s Staff)

The Witch’s Staff offers a versatile mix of ranged and melee options. Mastering its Aspects requires you to understand how to leverage your Magick pool and positioning effectively.

Aspect of Melinoë

This default Aspect grants you bonus Max Magick and significant Special Power as you level it up. The effect scales from +0 up to +50 Max Magick and Special Power.

Playstyle Strategy

The bonus Power for your Specials encourages a long-range sniping playstyle using Ω Specials. You can pick off enemies from a distance safely. While Aphrodite’s Flutter Flourish utilizes the added base Power well, it requires you to get too close for comfort. Ares is the superior choice here. His Vicious Flourish gives your Ω Special virtual one-shot potential against most unarmored enemies from any range. Additionally, Sworn Flourish from Hera offers a respectable percentage damage increase and inflicts Hitch on any survivors. This helps you clear groups efficiently.

• Recommended Familiar: Bring Raki. Since you will deal high damage from afar, Raki provides sporadic chances for critical damage against bosses. The Aspect already provides bonus Magick, so you do not need Hecuba even for Ω-centric strategies.

Aspect of Circe

This Aspect creates a bond between you and your familiar. Whenever you use Casts, your Animal Familiar does the same. This forms a Psychic Leash that deals rapid damage every 0.2 seconds for 5 seconds.

You should focus on trapping enemies. The Psychic Leash is surprisingly powerful and can deal as much as 750 damage each time you Cast at max investment. You want to catch as many enemies as possible in the beam. Demeter is an excellent goddess to follow with this Aspect because she offers Arctic Ring and Arctic Gale. These inflict two curses effortlessly and crowd control everything within your Cast. This immobilization makes confirming the Psychic Leash damage much easier. Local Climate and her duo boon with Ares, Hostile Environment, are also excellent choices. Aphrodite makes a solid second choice as a lot of your fighting will happen in and around your Casts.

• Recommended Familiar: We recommend Gale for this Aspect. Gale tends to follow Melinoë closely. This behavior makes managing the beam much easier than it is with other familiars.

Aspect of Momus

This Aspect creates a literal echo chamber for your magic. Whenever you use Ω Moves, each fires in place up to 3 times automatically until you use it again. The delay between refires drops to just 1 second at max rank.

Playstyle Strategy

As the label suggests, this Aspect relies entirely on spamming Ω Moves. You want to fire, reposition, and let the echoes do the work. Apollo’s Lucid Gain is fantastic because it retriggers each time your Ω Cast expires while being refired. This makes it a great option for sustaining your offense. Poseidon’s Flood Gain works, but your consumption might outpace the regeneration. For damage, Demeter’s Weed Killer and Poseidon’s Geyser Spout stand out as your absolute best options.

• Recommended Familiar: Hecuba gives you a solid Magick pool to work with while you look for a Gain boon.

Aspect of Anubis

This Aspect grants you the Ankh Scepter. Your Attacks create damaging pulses in the earth, your Specials pull enemies in, and you raise Lone Shades wherever you slay foes.

The Lone Shades serve as the central mechanic here. The Ankh Scepter completely replaces Descura’s normal Attack and Special behavior. Hera’s Nexus Rush is the single most important Boon for the Aspect of Anubis. The combination of burst damage, Hitch, and Lone Shades allows you to clear many encounters simply by Rushing. Despite the bonus to Ω Moves, the Ankh Scepter’s Ω Attack and Special can be difficult to use effectively. You should use a Special to draw enemies into your Ω Cast and Attack, then sprint through to apply Hitch and burst them down with Lone Shades.

• Recommended Familiar: Frinos is the standard recommendation here.

Lim & Oros (Sister Blades)

Speed and precision define the Sister Blades. These builds focus on positioning and burst damage to assassinate targets quickly.

Aspect of Melinoë

This Aspect is straightforward but deadly. Your Attacks and Specials deal significantly increased damage when striking foes from behind, scaling up to +200% damage.

Playstyle Strategy

You must hit enemies from behind to deal increased Weapon Damage. The Special virtually always scores a backstab on the return hit. This makes it very efficient and safe early on while you lack Boons. Because backstabs do not affect the damage of on-hit effects like Scorch or Splash, Aphrodite’s Flutter Strike is highly recommended as an Attack Boon. It will scale further with bonuses to your Power, such as from Secret Crush and the Daedalus Hammer upgrade Wicked Onslaught. For your Rush, choose a burst damage option like that from Ares rather than a sustained DPS option like Thunder Rush. You will typically be dashing through and behind your target repeatedly to keep up your backstab opportunities.

Just as before, Flutter Strike is your clear winner for an Attack Boon. You can stack power and deal incredible damage in the blink of an eye. Ares’s Vicious Strike is much better for Aspect of Artemis than it would be for Aspect of Melinoë, but it should not be your first choice.

• Recommended Familiar: Raki is obviously recommended to further increase your critical hit odds.

Aspect of Pan

Your Specials seek foes in your Casts and fire additional shots if you Channel longer.

Playstyle Strategy

This Aspect turns your Sister Blades into targeted hellfire missile strikes. It acts as a straight downgrade if you do not abuse Ω Specials, so you need improved Magick economy. While we normally dislike ranged Cast upgrades, Lightning Lance or Glowing Coal are incredibly effective with Aspect of Pan. Obliterate your enemies from a good and safe distance and watch the fireworks. Hestia’s Cardio Gain is also synergistic with the amount of individual hits you can land.

• Recommended Familiar: Hecuba is a good start to help manage your Magick.

Aspect of The Morrigan

You have the Crow Cutters. These can perform the ritual of Blood Triad to inflict massive flat damage, up to 999.

Playstyle Strategy

Honestly, these weapons are so busted that the specifics are not terribly important. They need no help dealing extra damage. They also are not especially Magick-hungry. Apollo is probably the overall best bet for increasing your attack range. This makes it easier to hit multiple enemies with Blood Triad at once. Alternatively, Hera can spread the burst damage of a completed ritual to other foes. Zeus Blitz is your best bet for bursting down bosses. Get in a good rhythm with it, and Blood Triad will do most of your damage for you.

• Recommended Familiar: Get your favorite flavor of survivability from Frinos, Toula, or Gale.

Revaal (Argent Skull)

The Argent Skull requires ammo management and aggressive positioning. These builds focus on maximizing the explosive potential of your shells.

Aspect of Melinoë

Your Attacks have increased Power for each Shell fired and not yet retrieved.

Playstyle Strategy

Revaal’s default Aspect is centered around spamming Attacks. It is not the highest DPS option in the world, so Raki helps capitalize on the increased Power with big critical hits. Zeus enjoys the high volume of strikes, with Heaven Strike and Static Shock performing well. Hera turns the small explosions into a nexus of chaos, which gives this Aspect great field clearing potential. However, it will struggle against bosses.

Aspect of Medea

Your Attack stays within reach and explodes after landing your Specials or after 3 seconds.

Playstyle Strategy

Medea turns the Argent Skull into a burst damage machine. You load as many shells as you choose into one big explosion and amplify the damage of both the Attacks and the Special that sets them off. The Aspect does not interface with Ω Moves in any meaningful way, so Prime all the Magick you like. Flutter Strike and Secret Crush are perfect, as your attack can only hit directly on top of you. Vicious Strike is a fine alternative that amplifies the burst damage with bonus Power through Wounds.

• Recommended Familiar: Raki is your go-to Familiar to make those bursts even bigger.

Aspect of Persephone

Your Ω Special is Sprouted. This lets you change direction, and Boons start with higher levels.

Playstyle Strategy

“Sprouted” means that applying damaging effects from Olympians extends the duration by up to 2 seconds on the next use. As such, you will want to quickly and easily apply Olympian damage with your Attacks before launching your Ω Special. Zeus and Hera are great options as always. You can trigger Blitz with your Ω Special damage or cause widespread mayhem with Hitch. Persephone often feels like a direct upgrade to Aspect of Melinoë and you can play it largely the same way.

• Recommended Familiar: Any Familiar should be fine, but Hecuba offers Magick economy.

Aspect of Hel

You have the Frost Mane. This grants the way of the Valkyrie after your Ω Special.

Playstyle Strategy

Frost Mane eschews the ammo system of the other Aspects. Instead, it Attacks in a burst of up to three strikes, while Specials launch a homing projectile rather than a dash attack. Using Ω Special removes the burst limit on your Attack while also raising attack speed. This turns it into a full-auto stream but disables the use of any Ω Moves for its 3-second duration. Heaven Strike and Static Shock will do excellent damage with Valkyrie mode active.

• Recommended Familiar: Raki.

Xinth (Black Coat)

The Black Coat offers a unique mix of blocking, melee, and homing projectiles. It feels good to use and offers high mobility.

Aspect of Melinoë

Your Attacks, Sprint, and move speed are faster.

Playstyle Strategy

This Aspect is straight to the point. You bop people with your fists, shower them with rockets, or shield yourself before kicking their faces to another planet. Aphrodite’s Flutter Strike or Ares’s Vicious Strike are the best bets for an Ω Attack-centric style. In the case of Ares, it is best done by not first inflicting Wounds with a standard Attack. You want the Ω Attack to inflict the Wounds and gain the bonus Power. Flutter Strike remains efficient for normal Attacks, as there is no real way to deal damage with them outside of close range.

• Recommended Familiar: Raki helps turn those big Ω Attack numbers into hilarious Ω Attack numbers.

Aspect of Selene

You start with Sky Fall, a hidden Hex that strikes multiple foes and inflicts Shine.

Playstyle Strategy

All the same stuff above applies here. Shine further increases your Ω Attack damage. A Flutter Strike, Raki crit, and World Collider full charge Ω Attack can rip giant chunks out of the worst bosses the game has to offer. Get Path of Stars upgrades when available and make liberal use of Sky Fall. Otherwise, this is flatly worse than other Aspects.

• Recommended Familiar: The Coat is always a bit Magick hungry, but Selene is especially so. Consider Hecuba for a more consistent performance.

Aspect of Nyx

You have Ω Boost, which lets you produce Nightspawn after you activate it.

Playstyle Strategy

After colliding into an enemy with Ω Boost, you gain the Nightspawn effect for 5 seconds. This splits your Attack and Special into 2 hits which deal reduced damage. The split attacks do not benefit from Boons, but they can trigger them. Nexus Rush with Ω Boost will do impressive damage and clear out a lot of mobs. If you can manage to get Static Shock, your Nightspawn Attack flurries will crank out DPS.

• Recommended Familiar: This is a lot of Magick spent and Magick Primed, so bring Hecuba and look for Max Magick increases.

Aspect of Shiva

You have Purifying Grace, which absorbs Ω Special blasts to grow Destruction.

Playstyle Strategy

The Ω Special slings a giant and bouncing orb that repeatedly deals damage in a wide area. Stand in these explosions to build Destruction. Each stack adds +75% damage to your next Ω Attack. This will turn your kicks into the Arrow of Indra and make you fly across the screen to deal thousands of damage. Nova Flourish has extra utility in making it easier and safer for you to hit multiple enemies with your expensive Ω Specials while still charging your Destruction.

• Recommended Familiar: Raise your Magick economy with Hecuba because using several Ω Specials and Ω Attacks gets costly very quickly.

Ygnium (Umbral Flames)

The Umbral Flames demand careful management of your Magick and positioning to maintain damage output.

Your Attacks and Specials may deal Critical damage.

Playstyle Strategy

As with other Aspects of Melinoë, this is the most basic and straightforward option. With the high concentration of relatively low-damage strikes, Zeus boons work admirably. Static Shock is great if you can tolerate the Primed Magick. Hera’s Hitch effects make Ygnium a top-tier room-cleaning device, but it is nothing special against bosses. Absolutely nothing is wrong with it, but you will likely look to the other Aspects most of the time. The 8% critical strike chance just cannot compare to some of the other effects available.

• Recommended Familiar: When we see the chance to crit, we consider Raki. However, Ygnium in all its Aspects is a ravenous Magick consumer, so Hecuba makes the early game more forgiving.

Aspect of Moros

Your Attacks linger for 6 seconds and explode in a blast if struck by your Specials.

Playstyle Strategy

The detonations are based on the damage of the attack, so Ω Attack and Ω Special bombs will hit significantly harder. But unlike other Aspects of Ygnium, Moros can do great DPS without draining your Magick constantly with Ω Moves. You should rhythmically alternate one Special per three Attacks. Zeus offers an excellent combination of single-target DPS and decent area damage, while Hera offers unrivaled screen-clearing power.

• Recommended Familiar: Raki or Hecuba.

Aspect of Eos

Your Ω Attack fires a Daybreaker that deals damage in an area around it every 2 seconds.

Playstyle Strategy

With fairly low base damage values and no percentage increases, Eos does well with flat damage Boons like Scorch or Splash. You will produce a critical mass of low-damage instances, so Hestia does a great job of amping the damage and also sustaining your Magick through Cardio Gain. Daybreakers copy your Special, so that will end up being your primary source of damage in most runs. Dedicate your Poms to your Special when able. While Ω Attacks are centrally important to this Aspect, you can have only one Daybreaker at a time. There is no reason to spam Ω Attack.

• Recommended Familiar: Bring Hecuba along if you like the early Magick economy, but Any Familiar should serve you well.

Aspect of Supay

You have the Devil Sparks, which also enhance your Rush Boon.

Playstyle Strategy

Aspect of Supay makes your Attacks fire automatically even while Rushing. This Aspect acts as a Turret Mode. Early on, it will be one of the slowest room-clearers. By the end of the run, the game simply surrenders to you and your unending torrent of destruction. Either Rush Boon from the priority gods (Zeus or Poseidon) is great. Thunder Rush offers top notch DPS for bosses while Breaker Rush obliterates mobs instantly.

• Recommended Familiar: With all the sprinting about you will be doing, it should be easy to keep Toula motivated. Gale, on the other hand, is purely for survival.

Zorephet (Moonstone Axe)

The Moonstone Axe is slow but devastating. These builds focus on trading blows and landing massive hits.

Aspect of Melinoë

Gain bonus Attack Power and Max Life.

Playstyle Strategy

This aspect significantly improves the Power of normal Attacks but not Ω Attacks. Flutter Strike is further empowered by this bonus, which makes it a great choice for raw damage. While it is not slow, the Axe is the slowest of the Nocturnal Arms, so spammy Olympian effects like Scorch and chain lightning are not at their best here. Blitz and Hitch of course still work just fine.

• Recommended Familiar: Bonus Life means Frinos is not necessary. Low Magick demands means Hecuba is not necessary. Bring Any friend you like.

Aspect of Charon

Your Cast erupts like your Ω Cast if struck by your Ω Special.

Geyser Spout is your bread-and-butter here. Anything else you can add to your Cast afterwards is fine and dandy. Expanding their size with Apollo’s Super Nova double-dips on the effect of the Aspect, which makes them positively colossal. Lucid Gain is a must-take that functionally gives you unlimited Magick.

• Recommended Familiar: Raki or Hecuba.

Aspect of Thanatos

Your Attack is faster, and each strike grants Mortality until you take damage.

Playstyle Strategy

Mortality builds by landing non-Ω Attacks and Specials and then grants Ω Moves bonus Critical chance. Use your boosted Attack speed to generate Mortality, and then use Ω Moves to churn out damage. Zorephet’s big flashy Ω Attack might make you want to spin-to-win. That is fine, but it does leave you wide open to hits that will strip all your Critical chance away. The real sauce with this Aspect is in Ω Casts. These can be safely dropped while you flee. So long as your Cast is Ω, any damage it deals has a chance to be Critical.

• Recommended Familiar: Raki seems the obvious choice, but Gale is a consideration as well. Taking any damage resets your Mortality, so Gale saves can preserve your buff.

Aspect of Nergal

You have the Rock Lion Mace, and you become Berserk after you strike enough foes.

Playstyle Strategy

The Rock Lion Mace almost reverses Zorephet’s typical attack chain. It leads with big heavy slams before ending with rapid smashes. The problem is that there will be more than one big heavy slam before the rapid attacks. And they are slow. The Ω Special changes from a screen-spanning line attack to a localized earthquake. Hit the requisite number of times to go Berserk, gain 65% Attack and Special Speed, and restore 1 Life per foe hit for the next 8 seconds.

• Recommended Familiar: Bring Frinos for extra Life because you will need it. You also do not want your familiar regularly taking kills from you and denying you your Berserk buff.
