Resident Evil Requiem

Last Updated on 27 June, 2025

At the recent Capcom Spotlight event, we got to see one of the most anticipated games of 2026 — Resident Evil Requiem. Capcom didn’t reveal much but they did share some juicy info about the game’s direction, mechanics and development.

With a new protagonist and a familiar yet creepy setting, Resident Evil Requiem is looking to be a fresh entry in the series. Here are the 5 biggest reveals.

5. First-Person or Third-Person?

For the first time in the series, you can switch between first-person and third-person camera angles at any time.

  • First-person view is more immersive and scary, with a limited field of view.
  • Third-person view gives you a wider view of your surroundings and enhances action scenes.

This is a big plus for accessibility and replay value, for both old fans and new players.

4. Attention to Detail with the RE Engine

Since the switch to the RE Engine in Resident Evil 7, Capcom has raised the bar for graphics and realism.

For Requiem, the developers are going even further, focusing on tiny details like facial redness, sweat, and realistic hair physics,  even employing a professional wig maker for the best visual authenticity.

This promises Resident Evil Requiem will be the most visually stunning game in the franchise so far.

3. A Tribute to Raccoon City’s Fallen

Resident Evil Requiem Racoon City

Capcom confirmed the return to Raccoon City isn’t just fanservice or nostalgia. The city’s tragic incident remains the franchise’s emotional core, influencing many future storylines.

The main theme of Requiem is a requiem — honoring those who didn’t survive the outbreak. Familiar characters like Leon, Claire, and Jill remain deeply connected to these events, hinting they may appear in the story.

2. Single-Player Only for Maximum Immersion

Resident Evil Requiem Singleplayer

Unlike some past Resident Evil games with co-op modes, Requiem will be a fully offline single-player experience.

Capcom wants to heighten the tension and fear by isolating the player — no allies, no safety nets. This design choice aims to deliver a more intense and immersive survival horror experience.

1. Why Leon Was Replaced by Grace

Originally Leon S. Kennedy was supposed to be the main character but Capcom decided he was too good and too brave to be the protagonist of this horror game.

Instead the spotlight is on Grace a new character who faces the horrors of Raccoon City with real vulnerability and makes for a more thrilling story.
