Activision has removed the Call of Duty ads that showed up in the loadout menus of Black Ops 6 and Call Of Duty Warzone, saying they were part of a “Feature Test” that was released by mistake.
The ads appeared after the launch of Season 4 last week. Players couldn’t avoid seeing them while customizing their gear.
Many players were very upset. A player said “At this point it really feels like opening up a mobile game with how much more you see an option to buy anything in this game,” another said “I wouldn’t even be mad if this was just in Warzone, a free game, but putting it in a pay-to-play premium title, with how expensive they’re getting? F**k off,”
Activision posted on Twitter saying the ads were taken out of the game. They said that a test feature showing store items in the loadout menus was added by mistake in the Season 4 update. They also said that this feature has now been removed from the game.
But players didn’t stop with the backlash. One user said“They honestly think the COD community is dumb enough to believe that…. Oh yeah…. They were right. No “feature” like that makes it out of QA testing by accident, and now they are gaslighting everyone into thinking it did.”
In short, many players are happy the ads are gone, but some are still worried they might come back later. Activision hasn’t said if this kind of feature will return in future updates.
