Boss Stem Cells (or simply Boss Cells) are permanent artifacts that, when activated, raise the difficulty of the game. The first is obtained by beating the Hand of the King or the Queen with no Boss Stem Cells active, the second by beating either with one active, and so on. The fifth Boss Stem Cell, however, is earned by defeating the Giant with four active. The application of Aspects hinders the acquisition of the next Boss Stem Cell.

These are the Boss Stem Cells rewards – Hard, Very hard, Expert, Nightmare & Hell difficulty:

Hard difficulty Boss Stem Cells Rewards

• Health Fountains are only available at every other Passage
• Legendary Forge: upgrade ++ items to 100%
• Unlocks doors
  • Prison Depths > to Ancient Sewers
  • Corrupted Prison > to Ramparts

 Very Hard difficulty Boss Stem Cells Rewards

• Removes all Health Fountains from Passages
• Legendary Forge: upgrade S items to 25%
• Cells dropped by enemies = x2
• Unlocks doors:
  • Slumbering Sanctuary > to Cavern
  • Forgotten Sepulcher > to Guardian’s Haven

Expert difficulty Boss Stem Cells Rewards

• Passages now only contain 2 Flask charges in total
• Legendary Forge: upgrade S items to 50%
• Cells dropped by enemies = x2
• You can collect Scroll Fragments
• Item levels by +1
• Colorless items from Cursed Chests from ++ to S-quality
• Unlocks door: Ramparts > to Insufferable Crypt

Nightmare difficulty Boss Stem Cells Rewards

• +detection range of mobs (they can also teleport to you)
• Passages don’t contain any Flask charges
• Legendary Forge: upgrade S items to 100%
• Cells dropped by enemies = x3
• You can collect more Scroll Fragments
• Item levels by +3
• Colorless items from Cursed Chests from ++ to S-quality

Hell difficulty Boss Stem Cells Rewards

• +detection range of mobs (they can also teleport to you)
• Malaise: activated.
• Passages don’t contain any Flask charges
• Legendary Forge: upgrade S items to 100%
• Cells dropped by enemies = x3
• You can collect more Scroll Fragments
• Item levels by +3
• Colorless items from Cursed Chests from ++ to S-quality
• Unlock Astrolab & Observatory (at the end of Throne Room)
• The Collector’s Intern replaces the Collector in Passages
