Electronic Arts (EA) has decided to stop making the Black Panther video game and has shut down the studio working on it, Cliffhanger Games. This news first came out through IGN, which shared details from an email sent to EA staff. In the email, EA Entertainment President Laura Miele said that the company is changing its focus and wants to put more effort into projects with the best chance to grow and succeed.
Miele said this was not an easy decision because it affects real people they have worked with. She added that EA is trying to help those employees find new jobs within the company whenever possible.
The email also said EA will now put more of its time and resources into well-known game series like The Sims, Skate, and Apex Legends. Miele confirmed that some big games are still being worked on, including an Iron Man game, a new Mass Effect game by BioWare, and a third game in the Star Wars Jedi series by Respawn.
Earlier this year, in April 2025, EA laid off around 300 people from teams at Respawn Entertainment and EA’s customer support group. At that time, Variety said EA had also canceled a new Titanfall game and another project that hadn’t been fully announced yet.
The Black Panther game was announced in 2023 as part of a deal between EA and Marvel. That deal included three different Marvel games, one of which is the Iron Man game still in development. Cliffhanger Games, the team working on Black Panther, was based in Seattle and started in 2023.
The studio was led by Kevin Stephens, who had worked on big games before, like God of War and Halo. The game was going to be a third-person, single-player game where players could step into the role of Black Panther and protect Wakanda.
