As we continue to learn more about the world of the wasteland, today we bring our guide to The Glowing Sea in Fallout 4. In this guide, we will discuss both the area and the namesake main quest. We will also equip you with some much-needed tips and tricks as you venture into this abomination of an area for the first time.

What Is The Glowing Sea?

The Glowing Sea sea is the largest highly irradiated region known to the entire wasteland of Fallout 4. It is located in the South Western corner at the end of the map. It served as ground zero for a massive nuclear detonation during The Great War. The Glowing Sea is now an isolated area only home to some of the most dangerous creatures of the game as well as the Crater of Atom. The player will come across this part of the wasteland when completing the main quest, The Glowing Sea where he has to locate Virgil to know more about The Institute.

Tips Before Traveling to The Glowing Sea

When we say that The Glowing Sea is a dangerous place to be in, we mean it. That is why here are some tips you should follow before you travel there:

  1. Level 30 or Above Only: Only think of traveling to The Glowing Sea if you are at least level 30 if not more than that. You need to be stacked with perks to fight against the harsh conditions and critters of the Sea, so do keep that in mind.
  2. Power Armor Is A Must: Finding yourself in the middle of The Glowing Sea with no Power Armor is basically like strolling in your neighborhood with no pants on. For lack of better words, it will get ugly. You must equip yourself with a good suit of Power Armor to fight off all that radiation. To be on the safer side, make sure you have at least 3 Fusion Cores as you enter the Sea. If you don’t know where to find Power Armor, there’s one for you at the Prydwen. There’s also a partial set of Power Armor with a Fusion Core located at the Federal Surveillance Center K-21B in The Glowing Sea.
  3. Radaway and Rad-X: Another means of fighting away the radiation poison is stocking up on Radaway and Rad-X. For good measure, get at least 5 of each. This is especially important if you don’t bring with you a suit of Power Armor.
  4. Don’t Go Alone: Some Fallout players prefer galloping across the wasteland with a companion while others ride solo. If you’re the latter, we suggest you take a companion with you on this run. In our opinion, Paladin Danse would be the best companion for this part of the wasteland.
  5. Get A Good Gun: This one is a bit of a no-brainer but make sure you enter The Glowing Sea with a killer weapon that’s loaded with ammo. It’ll be even better if the weapon has a high rate of fire like the Minigun. The Cryolator won’t be a good option here but if you still wanna get your hands on one, here’s how! You will come across plenty of feral ghouls, bugs, and even Deathclaws and Radscorpions. If you’ve been around Boston long enough, then you know these pesky critters can get on your nerves. So, be prepared with your loadout!

Mission Guide: The Glowing Sea

The Glowing Sea is a main quest in Fallout 4. In this quest, the Sole Survivor must locate Brian Virgil, a former Institue scientist who escaped and has hidden himself in the Sea. You will get this quest only after you finish the preceding quest, Dangerous Minds.

Here are all the steps for completing The Glowing Sea:

  1. Travel to the edge of The Glowing Sea.
  2. Keep walking Southwest, along the road till you reach the Crater of Atom.
  3. Locate Mother Isolde and ask about Virgil stating that you need information. Presuming you have enough points in Charisma, you can persuade her to give away his location.
  4. Make your way to the Rocky Cave to the Southwest of the Crater of Atom. Do look out for the Deathclaw right outside the entrance. You can either sneak past it or choose to take it down if you’re confident.
  5. Get inside the cave and talk to Virgil. Through the course of the dialogue, he will reveal that the best way to get into the Institute is to get a chip after killing an Institute Courser. In return, Virgil asks the Sole Survivor to bring back a serum from the Institute that will help him return to normal.

After completing this mission, you will get another main quest: Hunter/Hunted. In this quest, you will have to travel to the CIT ruins to kill an Institute Courser.
