But enough about the developers, characters, and basic premise. You are here to speed through the game and this walkthrough will ensure quick completion. No more Talking to’s and let’s start the walking throughs! We start with Chapter 1 – Cowardice.

Introduction with Explosion

June 23, 1944 in Orsha, Your playable characters for this run will be Ewald and Manfred, soldiers fighting for the Nazi regime, who were ordered to clear the minefield. After a long rolling cut scene, where the two characters are riding a truck towards their destination, bombs start to drop and both Ewald and Manfred are thrown off the truck. You now get to control your characters and get familiarized with the controls.

You will be starting in a prone position so quickly select both characters and move towards the trence in front of your position where you will be able to stand. At this point, the bombs stop as a cavalcade of enemy troops rush down towards you. Double click towards the left side of the screen so both characters will start running down the trench line. Another scene opens up as an officer halts your progress and forces you to go back to your positions and defend the line. Of course you’re having none of that or this game will be a short one. Click Ewald to choose him and use the Bare Hands skill, then choose the officer to select the target.

Run away, but quietly.

Once the target is down, both characters will rush down towards the bottom right of the trench and will quickly stop by a wooden fence, separating them and a volley of gunfire from both enemy and allies. This scene shows that both Ewald and Manfred will desert the army so stealth and cunning is necessary to escape. A parked motorcycle and some civilian clothes are the objectives for this chapter so be well prepared and use everything around you to make your escape.
Getting started in this location, there is a soldier located on the left, their field of vision, or FOV, is swaying left and right so timing is of the essence when walking through them. As long as the FOV is outside your range, the enemy will not notice you. Using Ewald, pickup the moonshine bottle on top of the cabinet on the left side which will be highlighted. Throw the bottle in between the FOV of the soldier and his allies so the other soldiers won’t see it as well. Aim at the back of the broken carriage just outside the door. Wait for the soldier to come closer and use the Bare Hand skill to know him out. Now you must lure another one, but don’t forget to carry the knocked out body of the first soldier and hide it behind you. Once you lure and knock out the other one, you can lure the last one inside the fence with the same tactic, don’t worry about the body as it will be outside the soldier’s line of sight. The next soldier will be from behind the entrance fence so time the FOV when it’s in the far right and rush the Bare Hand Skill on to the soldier to quickly knock him out.

The Next scene will be Manfred’s debut so rush down the alley and climb onto the vines leading to the balcony where a soldier is standing watch, kill him with Manfred’s Knife ability, a silent instant kill, then proceed in using Ewald towards the last two soldiers in the section with the Brawl Skill, instantly killing two of them. Once you knock out the three soldiers, Manfred’s Pocketwatch Skill will be available. Use the Pocketwatch and throw it by the side of the soldier hiding behind the entrance of the bunker which will inevitably draw him out.  Once he’s in range, use Ewald to rush him with Bare Hands, knocking him out.

Now the next part is the two guards on the left side which can be easily disabled with Ewald’s punches. After that, there are two guards on the top hallway guarding the spot. Use Manfred’s Pocketwatch as soon as the soldier’s FOV is directed to the yellow indicator, then run back and hide. As soon as the guard is distracted, use Ewald’s ability to incapacitate the guard quickly. You can also do this with the last guard, where you must position the Pocketwatch throw to the far right of the hallway, giving you more time to use Ewald to rush him.

A cutscene ensues where a group of prisoners get gunned down in the trenches where you’re going through. Use Ewald’s Brawl to knock out the two guards in the passage then Bare Hands the officer rummaging around the dead bodies on the right. By this time you have unlocked Manfred’s Whistle Skill. Carry the bodies outside the passage so as to not draw suspicion once you use your Whistle Skill. There is a covered opening in the hallway where you can whistle. Use the Whistle Skill on a soldier and once he’s within range, use the Knife Skill to kill him. There are two soldiers here so you can use them on both.

Once finished, you can now change clothes by way of the clothesline on the right side of the map. Change both your character’s clothes and pick up the weapons specified for both: Manfred uses a Mauser Rifle and Ewald uses the MP40 submachine gun.

Head towards the right side of the map, just by the chain gates and behind a wall from an officer, use the Whistle and Knife combo to take him out. There will be a wooden fence obstructing the enemy’s view from across the wall so use the Whistle just by the edge of the fence near the wooden boxes, then use Bare Hands to knock the soldier as he run towards Manfred’s distraction. Same thing goes for the soldier behind the tattered cabin. Use Whistle just by the end of the wall and use Ewald to kill the unsuspecting soldier once he comes around to investigate.

You can now use the passage to cross, but before you go up the stairs, go to the end of the passage and whistle, distracting the guard on top and knocking him out again. There are two more soldiers inside a dilapidated house so use the Whistle and Bare Hands combo on both of them as well before moving forward. Now comes the slow part.

Crawl your way towards the left side of the compound, just behind the left side of the covered well, around the guarding soldiers. There will be another guard’s FOV waiting for you on the left side so use the Pocketwatch Skill just in front of him to distract him then knock him out. You can now freely eliminate the guard by the well. Once done, use the pause button to plan the instantaneous attack on the last two soldiers inside the compound. Let each character kill one soldier to quickly progress.

Just meters away from the motorcycle are four soldiers standing watch, use Ewald or Manfred and crawl towards the boxes near the soldiers and use Combat mode and gun them down. With all soldiers dead, Ewald and Manfred are now free to escape using the motorcycle and run away from the forsaken battlefield.

And that is the end of Chapter 1 of the game War Mongrels.
