Are you looking for the best tips and tricks to raise prosperity in Mount and Blade Bannerlord?
Anyone who invests time and brains into Mount and Blade Bannerlord wants to see their town or settlement flourishing in every aspect. However, you often fail to get the returns you have been anticipating from your settlement.
So, if you’re struggling to see why your town isn’t thriving even though you seem to be doing everything right, there is one answer and one solution to your problem.
Prosperity!
Prosperity is how well your town is doing in terms of finances, food, resident loyalty, city infrastructure, tax returns, bonuses, security, and much more!
Therefore, the more your town prospers the better it flourishes. Whereas, a lack of prosperity can drive your town into ruins.
Luckily, we have the necessary tips, strategies, and do’s and don’ts to make sure your town never fails to prosper.
What is Prosperity?
Prosperity is one of the stats or modifiers in Mount and Blade Bannerlord that indicates how well a town or settlement is doing or how well you are governing it.
Prosperity is dependent on various other modifiers of the game. These modifiers themselves are also interconnected. So, if one modifier falls short or improves, others are impacted too.
For example, the prosperity of a settlement is dependent on the amount of food it produces and the loyalty of its residents among other things.
The loyalty of the residents, in turn, is also dependent on the food. If the food production reduces, so does the loyalty and the overall prosperity of your town.
Since the prosperity of your town is dependent on several modifiers, anything can impact it negatively or positively. While this can be concerning, it is also good news! It means you can tweak and improve various things in your town to ensure its growth!
Why is Prosperity Important?

If you are spending time and energy towards creating and sustaining a town, you don’t want it to fall into chaos and destruction. Hence, the town must prosper to grow, advance, and remain steadfast in the face of challenges, adversities, as well as any attacks.
In Mount and Blade Bannerlord, prosperity for a town means many things. For example, it is directly related to tax revenues and financial gains. As your prosperity score increases, your town will be able to make more money, invest in advanced construction projects faster, and will be able to defend itself better against attacks and sieges.
Several other advantages come with a high prosperity score. For instance, boosting prosperity can:
- Improve tax returns and finances
- Increase the number of notable NPCs in your campaign which can increase your passive influence.
- Improve the goods and their prices in the market
- Boost the workshop’s profits
- Increase the number of recruits for your troops
The Do’s of Raising Prosperity
With several modifiers in Mount and Blade Bannerlord influencing prosperity, you can target several things in your town to increase prosperity. The following factors are guaranteed to increase your settlement’s prosperity if you leverage them properly.
Food
Food is a crucial modifier to target to increase prosperity since it has the largest impact both negatively and positively.
For example, if your town is facing a food shortage it will take away 10 points from the town’s prosperity every day! Plus, 50% of the food deficit in your town will also eat into the prosperity daily till it’s reduced to nada.
So, to increase prosperity you must increase and improve your town’s food infrastructure. Having food in surplus will significantly boost prosperity by adding 10% of the surplus amount to the prosperity score.
Make investments carefully and spend more money on buildings and land that will increase food production.
Settlement Projects
A quick way to boost prosperity continuously is to invest in town projects. Two kinds of projects can boost prosperity:
One-time construction projects that provide permanent prosperity boosts
Active improvement projects that continue to increase prosperity scores as long as they are active.
An example of a one-time project is ‘Aqueducts’ which produces a permanent daily prosperity boost of +1. ‘Build Houses’ is an example of an active project and also adds +1 to your prosperity score daily so long as the project is active.
These small increments in the overall prosperity score are crucial to ensure that your prosperity is always increasing. Moreover, in case the prosperity score takes a hit, the daily bonuses are useful in stabilizing it.
Villages
Adequate maintenance and improvement of villages in your settlement can improve your campaign’s overall prosperity by increasing the loyalty scores of the villagers and ‘hearth’ ratings.
You can achieve this by bolstering the security around the village. To do so you must exterminate all the bandits’ hideouts and troops.
You can also complete villagers’ quests to increase relations and loyalty which is another solid way of boosting prosperity.
Loyalty
Loyalty is another crucial modifier in Mount and Blade Bannerlord. Fail to properly govern and provide for the residents and you will invite rebellion and chaos into your town as its prosperity also takes a hit.
Therefore, your goal should be to actively take care of all the construction projects, assign reliable governors, optimize food production, and improve all such modifiers that affect loyalty.
If your loyalty score goes above 75, you will gain a +0.5 prosperity score daily!
Quests
The notable NPCs in your town will bring several quests. These can be your window into increasing your prosperity score. However, you must be careful that failing to undertake and solve certain quests can negatively impact your prosperity.
Here are a few quests that can cost you prosperity points if you fail to solve them:
- You will lose -0.4 prosperity points for not solving Escort Merchant Caravan.
- You will lose -0.2 prosperity points for not solving Bandit Base, Help with Brigands and Artisan Can’t Sell
- You will lose -0.1 prosperity points for not solving Extortion by Deserters
Market Goods
Increasing the number of goods in the market is another way of ensuring your town’s prosperity. To improve the goods in your market you must increase the number of merchants and workshops in your town.
Although market goods are not as strong a modifier as others to improve prosperity, however, it still counts.
The Don’ts of Raising Prosperity
While you must actively take certain measures and improve particular modifiers to increase prosperity, there are some modifiers that you need to be mindful of. Some modifiers come with penalties that can decrease your town’s prosperity score.
Choose policies wisely
Policies can impact the prosperity score indirectly. However, apart from one, most other policies come with penalties that can negatively impact prosperity every day.
‘Imperial Towns’ policy is the only penalty-free policy that will only improve the prosperity of your town. All others, such as road tolls, war tax, crown dury, etc. policies have negative impacts on prosperity. They decline the prosperity score by 0.2 to 1 daily.
So, you must be very careful of your current prosperity levels before implementing these policies.
Choose village prosperity over city prosperity
You may often feel that your city is prospering just fine, it has all the resources and prosperity-producing structures, yet your prosperity score keeps declining. Why is that?
A highly prospering city means more people living there which places an extensive burden on resources such as food and security etc. Once these modifiers are compromised, it automatically impacts the overall prosperity.
However, village prosperity is connected to higher food production which increases stability and further increases prosperity. This is a success loop that you should focus on instead of investing all resources in improving the cities.
Conclusion
The one thing to remember about mount and blade Bannerlord is that all modifiers are interconnected. This means improving a few modifiers will automatically improve others and thereby boost prosperity.
However, it also means a decline in one modifier can drastically negatively impact prosperity.
So, look out for policies and modifiers that negatively impact prosperity and implement measures such as projects, quests, and loyalty to boost prosperity!
